Between frogs and fairies

Once there was a little fairy frog. She lived in the big rainbow pond at the end of the rainbow. But she never quite fit in though, since her friends where either fairy or frog… Even the little fairy frog’s parents couldn’t quite understand her, she was just too different. Her parents had split up, they both knew a frog and a fairy just couldn’t do together.
Her parents made the reason of the breakup very clear to her, it just couldn’t do. This made the little fairy frog conflicted, if frog and fairy couldn’t mix, then what was she? Was she a failure? She got convinced of the fact that she was a freak of nature and could not live with the frogs nor the fairies. Her so-called “friends” only confirmed, since they thought she didn’t belong either.
One day, when the rainbow was strong and bright, she started to climb it, searching for her own, happy place. Never had a frog nor fairy succeeded in climbing the rainbow. The frogs couldn’t get across the gaps in the rainbow, they refused to jump them, too afraid to fall. The fairies could fly past the gaps off course, if they would be able to fly that far that would be… The atmosphere around the rainbow was too thick for the paper-thin wings of the fairies, they couldn’t get much further than a few meters, after that they where just too tired to continue, or to go back…
But the little frog fairy was fearless, since she had nothing to lose. She was stronger than the fairies, but lighter than frogs. She could jump over the gaps and if they where too far to reach jumping, she would fly a little. She went on an on, up the rainbow. But when she reached the top, she wouldn’t just stop! She went on an on, until she reached…
A brown pond! This is where the rainbow pulled the colors from. As she looked a little further, she saw some creatures she could not identify. They where hopping, winged, brightly colored creatures and they where hopping towards the pond. The little fairy frog was amazed, they looked even funnier than she did!
As the creatures jumped into the pond and disappeared under the surface of the brown, muddy water, the fairy frog stood there watching. But when the creatures came out of the water… they looked completely different! The creatures came out without their funny colors, they came out looking pale green and slimy. When the fairy frog looked closer, she saw the wings where feathery, the creatures were pigeon toads!
The little fairy frog felt humble, as for she had only heard of these creatures in stories, tales… The tales told they where the keepers of the rainbows. The pigeon toads would search all over the world for the most beautiful  colors, bring them back to the rainbow and dump it in the water.
Never had the fairy frog felt so at peace, as there with the pigeon toads. She asked the pigeon toads, ‘Please, may I stay with you?’. And they replied, ‘Off course, if you have the courage to cross the rainbow with your humble wings, you’ll be perfect to help us here.’
‘Really? I can help even?’ The fairy frog asked with a high-pitched voice. The thing was, there where such big gaps in the rainbow, because the colors didn’t get stirred properly. The wings of the pigeon toads where too big and heavy to stay on an even level while flying, the wings of the little fairy frog where perfect for such thing.
The fairy frog got to stay with the pigeon toads. At day she would stir the pond while the pigeon toads where searching for colors, by night they would all come close together, all cuddly and cozy to sleep the darkness away. The little fairy frog was protected by the sturdy wings of the pigeon toads, never did she have to feel alone and misunderstood again…
